Wheat genomics lab and Molecular pathology labs at the University of Maryland are two collaborating laboratories with a common vision of improving small grain crops for ensuring global food security and environmental sustainability.
Dr. Vijay Tiwari's lab concentrates on the genomics of small grains like wheat, barley, and Triticale toward utilizing genomics data in the post reference-genomes era for increasing their resilience to biotic and abiotic stresses and improved quality, and at the same time minimizing their ecological footprint. Dr. Nidhi Rawat's lab focuses on discovery and utilization of genes involved in resistance and susceptibility of plants to fungal pathogens. Folks in the Rawat lab also work on deciphering the mechanisms of atypical resistance genes for their broader application. |
